Ah, Fall. The leaves are changing colors, the students have returned to campus, and my two favorite seasons are kicking in to high gear: Football and Politics!

Like our beloved Mizzou Tigers train year-round, the Boone County Dems have a permanent full time office and staff year-round, long before campaigns come and long after they leave. We’re the smallest county in Missouri to be able to do that!

And just like every Tigers fan expects our offense to make the big plays every week, every month the Boone County Dems need you to make a big play.

That’s why today we’re announcing our Black and Gold program: every month you make a big play and help us take our great candidates like Robin Carnahan, Susan Montee, Scott Christianson, Chris Kelly, Stephen Webber and Kelly Schultz to the end zone!

One more time: Even a short carry of $5 a month goes a long way to keeping our lights on and doors open! Click here to donate today!

Take a look at the first TV ad from the Robin Carnahan campaign!

Presser below:

Congressman Blunt, the Very Worst of Washington, is Taken to Task for His Record of Waste, Corruption, and Sticking it to the Middle Class

The Story of How Congressman Blunt Helped Wreck the Economy, then Led the Charge to Pass the Wall Street Bailout That Stuck Middle Class Taxpayers With a $700 Billion Tab – All While Raking in Over $1.6 Million in Wall Street Donations

Watch the New Ad: Here

St. Louis, MO – Today Robin Carnahan’s Senate campaign rolled out their first television ad, “Nine Years Later.” The ad holds Congressman Blunt accountable for his Washington record of helping wreck the economy, bailing out Wall Street, and sticking middle class families with the bill.

“Not shying from his record of waste, corruption and sticking it to the middle class, Congressman Blunt bragged that giving Wall Street $700 billion in taxpayer money was one of the ‘high points’ during his 14 years in Washington,” said Linden Zakula, Robin Carnahan’s spokesman. “This ad tells the story of how Congressman Blunt has become the very worst of Washington – wasting tax dollars and fighting for corporate special interests while sticking it to the middle class.”

Congressman Blunt did not just vote for the $700 billion Wall Street bailout, but was also a key architect and actually boasted about twisting arms and changing votes to shove the bill through Congress. But the story of Congressman Blunt’s loyalty to corporate special interests actually started years earlier when Blunt voted to deregulate Wall Street and let them run hog wild – ultimately running our economy into the ditch. In the end, Congressman Blunt’s Washington insider record earned Wall Street $700 billion, Congressman Blunt over $1.6 million, and stuck middle-class families with the bill.

Just this week, Congressman Blunt made more headlines for his role in the $700 billion Wall Street bailout for his efforts to distort his record on the issue. As the Associated Press reported, “Before he was against it, U.S. Rep. Roy Blunt was for a 2008 bill authorizing up to $700 billion to shore up banks and other troubled financial institutions. In fact, Blunt helped negotiate its details and – as House Republican whip – helped round up enough votes to ensure its passage.” [Associated Press, 8/8/2010]

Robin has been a fierce defender of consumers, getting back more than $10 billion for wronged investors and saving Missouri small businesses $12 million.

Robin is running for the U.S. Senate Seat currently held by U.S. Senator Kit Bond (R-MO) who is retiring. She is currently in her second term as Missouri Secretary of State where she has worked across party lines to protect consumers by standing up to big institutions and getting more than $10 billion returned to wronged investors, and to cut red tape for small businesses so they can save resources and create more jobs. A breast cancer survivor with a background in business and law, Robin also still oversees her family’s cattle farm in Rolla, MO.
Columbia – In a revealing set of reports, candidate Kelly Schultz posted over $51,000 cash on hand, including more than $16,000 from this quarter alone. More astonishing was the amount posted by the favorite for the Republican nomination, former State Senator John Cauthorn – $18,343.97.

What these reports are saying, loud and clear, is that the momentum in the 21st House District is squarely in Kelly Schultz’s corner. “It’s an amazing show of support from all over the district. So many people are energized and have given freely of their time and money, it’s really very humbling,” Schultz said after finishing her own finance report.

Kelly’s success with fundraising is a direct result of her hard work talking directly to voters, having already knocked on close to 3,000 doors, and some have not been visited by a candidate in over 20 years.

Yesterday, Secretary of State and Senate candidate Robin Carnahan spoke to a shoulder to shoulder crowd of supporters at Shakespeare’s Pizza in downtown Columbia, her last stop of the first day on her “Stop the Bull Tour.”

Secretary Carnahan laid out her commonsense approach to bringing accountability and courage back to Washington.

“First, we need to stop the pork-barrel politics of earmarks, not just for one year, or ten, but altogether,” she said, challenging her Republican opponent, 7 term congressman Roy Blunt to release a list of every boondoggle he’s ever lobbied for in his 14 years of reckless spending.

Putting an end to corporate giveaways and sweetheart deals for Wall Street and Big Oil was the next on her list, and her third plank was to stop the reckless spending and create a new urgency around fiscal responsibility. “Missourians know Washington is broken, and out of touch, and so do I – that’s why it’s time to stop the bull and fix what’s wrong with Washington,” noting that while Congressman Blunt increased earmark spending by 7 fold in his time in Washington, Robin Carnahan has cut costs for small businesses by nearly $12 million and returned over $10 billion back to wronged investors.
