County Treasurer Jan Fugit has passed away

UPDATE: Visitation will be Sat. 12-3 with service following at Parkade Baptist Church then burial at Memorial.

The Boone County Democrats extend our sympathy and prayers to the family, friends and colleagues of County Treasurer Jan Fugit who passed away Tuesday following a brief illness.  She is survived by husband Darin & sons Carter & Charlie and in laws Olin & Phyllis Fugit.

Boone County officials wish to convey their deep sorrow at the loss of County Treasurer Jan Fugit who passed away shortly after noon on Tuesday, February 1, 2011 at Boone Hospital Center.

Jan was elected County Treasurer at the November 2010 Election after being appointed by Governor Jay Nixon on March 8 of 2010 to fill the vacancy created by Kay Murray’s retirement.

Jan moved seamlessly into the County Treasurer position after many years of experience in governmental finance and accounting.  She graduated from the University of Missouri-Columbia with a degree in Accounting and worked on county audits for the State Auditor’s office before serving at the Department of Insurance and the Missouri Department of Higher Education.  In 1997, she joined the financial services division at Boone HospitalCenter and in 2006 was appointed manager of financial reporting for Boone Hospital Center and the Boone County Hospital Board of Trustees.

In her short tenure in county government she was already laying the groundwork for new programs to enhance the security and productivity of county cash management systems.  County officials are grateful to her for the care and knowledge she brought to the office and the friendships she quickly established with all of us.

Her work clearly demonstrated that she had joined a long tradition of Boone County officials who provided stellar cutting-edge service to county citizens.

Her fellow county officials and employees express their sympathy to Jan’s family – especially her 12–year-old twin sons, Carter and Charlie, as well as her husband Darin, who is a former county employee.

We hope that their loss can be eased by the knowledge of the many contributions she has made to our community as a trusted and respected official and dear friend.  We ask that all Boone Countians keep her family in your thoughts during this difficult time.

Congratulations!

Congratulations to the winners of the August Democratic Primary! We have a lot of work to do before November, but the good news is that there were nearly 3,500 more Democratic ballots cast in Boone County than Republican ballots! We’re ready for a change, and Boone County knows that the Democratic Party is the party who can put us on the right track. You can view the local election results here.
